Historic estate with formal gardens & sculptures, grottos & circa-1914 mansion turned museum.
Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is a historic estate in Miami, featuring formal gardens, sculptures, grottos, and a circa-1914 mansion that has been transformed into an art museum. This historical landmark and tourist attraction offers a unique blend of art, history, and natural beauty. Built by industrialist James Deering between 1914 and 1922, Vizcaya served as his winter residence, with the main house opening to him on December 25, 1916. Located in the Coconut Grove area of Miami, it stands today as an oasis of silence and greenery, beautifully preserved just south of Miami’s modern skyline. The estate was meticulously designed to take full advantage of its picturesque location on Biscayne Bay, with the Courtyard, originally open to the sky, serving as the heart and main living area of the house.
